Police Department: Ogallala has 11 full-time police officers and one support person.  Crime rate is below state and national averages.  Per 1,000 population is 44.5 in Ogallala and 34.8 in Keith County. The Keith County Sheriff’s Department has seven officers and seven support personnel.  The Nebraska State Patrol has six officers stationed in Ogallala.

HOUSING: On average there are 100 available houses for sale in Keith County and according to local real estate personnel, this number is relatively constant.  New home construction averages $106 per square foot.

RECREATION: Ogallala provides an outstanding array of recreational opportunities for every age in the community.  The city operates 11 city parks, a band shell, Legion Baseball field, outdoor pool, recreation center with indoor pool, tennis courts, a hiking/biking trail and a new sports complex.  The $1 million dollar complex provided regulation softball & soccer fields, concessions and parking.

Ogallala also has a bowling alley, two- screen theatre, and public library.

The Ogallala Regional Arts Council provides a wide exposure of cultural events to the community: from real western music to Broadway shows.  Front Street, a local restaurant offers the Crystal Palace Revue, a family show that reflects the western heritage of the area.

Bayside Golf Course, located at Lake McConaughy, opened in June of 2000 and is an 18-hole links-style course.  Bayside offers a driving range, restaurant, conference facilities, and a pro-shop.  West Wind Golf Club is an 18-hole public golf course, located just southeast of Ogallala, that offers a driving range, restaurant, lounge and pro-shop.
